SOUL ALPHABET RECLAIM (2019)
TINY SPACES (PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA)
We held our first ever themed Soul Alphabet, our theme was #RECLAIM. On the night we had 6+ creatives of Afrikan heritage performing and showcasing their work; from music to poetry to photography and much more. Additionally, For the first ever, we created an artist exchange experience between Australia and Afrika. Through our collaboration, those who attended the event got to experience the work of artists who are based in Uganda.
Lastly, we raised $700 for a based in Uganda charity, Love Uganda Foundation. Which is a charity that promotes the right and wellbeing of every child & has an orphanage in Gayaza Uganda.
SOUL ALPHABET X HOTH (2018)
Kigali photography center (kigali, rwanda)
In December 2018, we held our first ever international Soul Alphabet event. This was made by possible by our partnership with Nuru Tours - a travelling agency that connects Africans living in the diaspora with Africans in Africa through travel, events and charity.
With this collaboration we were able to connect with creatives in Rwanda who were active in the art scene. Lastly, On the night everyone who attended helped us raise 150k rwf which has all been donated to Root Foundation - which supports vulnerable children in Rwanda.
SOUL ALPHABET X SPYC BASHMENT: MIND4 (2018)
Clancy's Fish Pub (FREMANTLE, WESTERN AUSTRALIA)
We Collaborated with Spyc Bashment (sister dj duo) by bringing an event that celebrated individuality and created mental health awareness in the African community.
We were able to raise $1,200 for The Habeeb Mental Health Project. The state of mental health in Somalia is at a critical point and supporting an organisation that's building a hospital and rehabilitation centre for people who society has shut out was important to us and to the community.
We thank each artist, volunteer and those who attended the event. Your support is highly appreciated.
SOUL ALPHABET X ABANTU: PEOPLE OF ART (2018)
stackwood (FREMANTLE, WESTERN AUSTRALIA)
This was our second time holding a soul alphabet event and we challenged ourselves by having the event run for two days.
The event was in collaboration with Albertina Ncube, as she showcasing her film 'Abantu: People of art' and launching her film tour that will take place in December across Zimbabwe. On the tour she will be travelling with all the creatives she interviewed in her film and the mission behind the tour is to change the perception older generations have about the African creative industry.
We were able to raise $1,200 and these funds are going to be donated to Haval Children's Foundation x Abantu: People of Art'. Where in December (2018), all the creatives part of Albie's film tour will get to give back to the community by buying school supplies for children and volunteering their time and talent by teaching kids how to get involved in various creative mediums; from photography to producing music.
The purpose behind this is to empower children in rural parts of Zimbabwe and expose them to alternative
career paths from a very young age and hopefully inspire them to follow their passion.
Both nights were huge collaborations and we are so thankful.
SOUL ALPHABET X ANOTHER ANTIPODES: AFRICAN CONTEMPORARY ARTS (2017)
ps. art space(FREMANTLE, WESTERN AUSTRALIA)
We got a once in a lifetime opportunity to take over one of Another Antipodes curated nights. We wanted to encourage people to come and appreciate art, and at the end of the day art comes in many forms. For one night only, we turned Ps Art Space into a space full of energy and love.
We had an amazing line-up of women of colour creatives who are shaping Perth's creative industry. The event enabled us to raise $500 forOpportunity International Australia, which provides micro-funds to women in third world countries to start and maintain their small businesses.
